CMS serves as a forum for the presentation of<br \/>\nanalysis that is critical of established mainstream management practice and the taken-for-<br \/>\ngranted social or economic orders surrounding organization and business.\u00a0 Our premise is<br \/>\nthat structural features of contemporary society encourage organizations and their members towards domination and exploitation. Approaches to understanding these dynamics draw on a wide range of perspectives including postcolonial theory, feminist analysis, ethical theory, Marxist and post-Marxist frameworks, ethnography and labor process theory.\u00a0 Popular topics in recent years include but are not limited to: social change and social movements, alternative economic and organizational forms, globalisation and power elites, and critical histories of management thought.<\/p>\n<p>We particularly encourage papers and symposia that relate to the theme of this year\u2019s<br \/>\nconference, The Power of Words (http:\/\/aom.org\/annualmeeting\/theme\/).\u00a0 This focuses<br \/>\nattention on the role of language in the politics of inclusion and exclusion and the violence<br \/>\nthat can be done through words.\u00a0 Possible questions include:<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 How does language contribute to constructing and maintaining global or local<br \/>\ninequalities of race, gender, class, religion, identity?\u00a0 How does language define<br \/>\nrelations between \u2018the West and the rest\u2019?<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 How are words and linguistic discourses used to support the profit imperative,<br \/>\nand how can alternative discourses be created?<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 How can words be used to challenge managerial action, organizational<br \/>\ndomination and exploitation?\u00a0 What is the role of digital communication technologies,<br \/>\nincluding social media, in enabling activism and critique?<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 How does the dominance of the English language affect scholarship and<br \/>\nteaching?\u00a0 How does English language hegemony restrict our ability to give voice<br \/>\nand listen to others, and explore diverse forms of critique?<\/p>\n<p>Division Awards will be given for:<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0 Best Paper<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0 Best Doctoral Student Paper<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0 Best International Business Paper<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0 Best \u2018Dark Side\u2019 Case Study<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0 Best Doctoral Dissertation<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0 Best Developmental Reviewer<\/p>\n<p>Please refer to our website http:\/\/group.aomonline.org\/cms\/ for more detail on these awards and the remit of the Division.\u00a0 All award winners are celebrated at the CMS business meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The submission website, http:\/\/aom.org\/annualmeeting\/submission\/, is scheduled to open on November 5, 2013. It includes guidance on how and when to submit, as well as the format paper and symposia submissions must take. The deadline to submit is January 14, 2014 at 5 PM US Eastern Time.
